Admissions Requirements
Students with a bachelor level degree or a master’s degree in chemistry, pharmacy, the biological sciences, material sciences, chemical engineering or related disciplines are encouraged to seek admission into our program. Exempt under unusual circumstances, we review and accept candidates for admission into the fall semester only and not for the spring semester. There are a number of items that must be submitted in order for you to have a complete application packet. All information must be delivered to us before we can begin to consider your application.
The list of materials required to be sent to the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry include the following:
1) GRE examination results (not more than five years old) forwarded directly to the graduate school/Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the ETS. Photocopies of results are not permissible. The institution code for the University of Kansas is R6871. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry’s code is R0305
2) TOEFEL results if applicable. These may not be required if you have completed a degree in an English speaking country. However, the list, at the current time, is not all inclusive and is limited to the USA, England, Australia and New Zealand to name a few. You should contact the graduate school to clarify if your institution is recognized by them.
3) Official transcripts from all universities/institutions in which the applicant has studied.
4) The application to graduate school. This can be completed online, which is much preferred. Click here to apply online. Alternatively you can download a hardcopy of the PDF application form. Note that one is for international students and one is for domestic applicants. In a last resort it is possible to contact Nancy Helm at the address below and she will send you a hard copy of the application through regular mail.
5) The application processing fee (amount varies).
6) A brief personal statement (about one page or so) that helps us understand why you are interested in graduate school and more specifically why our Department instead of the may others available for you to choose from.
7) An updated copy of your resume indicating relevant experiences, which should include your educational and research experiences (if applicable).
8) Three letters of recommendation form people who you believe are the most qualified in commenting on your potential to succeed in graduate studies in our Department. There is no template regarding the format of letters of recommendation but please make sure they are on official letterhead.
All of these items should be sent/directed to the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry c/o Nancy Helm at the address below:
