Pharmaceutical Chemistry Research The Department maintains a strong tradition in research on and teaching of fundamental physical, chemical and biological principles critical for the development of drugs. Strong emphasis is placed on the transport of small molecule and macromolecular drugs across biological barriers, the targeting of drugs to specific cell types and to specific organelles within cells, the development of prodrugs and analytical methodology to study drug disposition, and the design of chemically and physically stable drugs and drug formulations. The collaborative research environment within the Department and with other Departments of the University will expose students to a wide array of modern research in the pharmaceutical sciences, invaluable for a successful career in the chosen field.
